KUSC Recognizes the Movies

Coincidentally, the day after I posted about the importance and influence of music in the movies, I was listening to KUSC and heard about a special movie score countdown that they are going to feature starting February 18th. It is officially called the KUSC Great Movie Music Countdown and it will last a whole week! I can't wait!

They're giving listeners a chance to vote for the movie scores that are "the greatest", so if you want to take a look at what's on the ballot, here's the link: http://www.kusc.org/movies/

Ben-Hur is on the list, as is The Big Country, The Adventures of Robin Hood, To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, and about 50 other films. Most of the scores are from classic films, or period movies, but a few more recent Disney films appear as well. I will say I was surprised to see WALL-E on the list. The movie's musical arrangements feature quite a bit of electronically created sounds, resulting in a auditory product quite different, artistically, from most of the other film scores on the list which tend to solely rely on an orchestra. Of course, this technological element was necessary for tying in the futuristic theme of the film, but it'll be interesting to see if this difference affects how WALL-E fares in the countdown.

Anyway, happy voting! And in case you have a film score in mind that doesn't appear on the list, don't worry! There's an option to type in a title of your choosing next to "other".
